Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a fractional CFO?

When the growth you are experiencing is taking you to a complexity and speed that no longer allows you to control the business as before. You are losing control and you don’t have the time to dedicate to the financial area.

You realise that you need knowledge and experience at another level; a specialised professional because there are already things that escape you.

And because you know you need strategy and planning.

Another angle of the issue is the training of the person/persons you have inside, or that until now you depend on a management company that no longer fulfils what you need (because it is not its function).

It happens when you go from being your partner, you and some collaborators, to a team of more than 10 people.

What is the difference between ‘Fractional CFO’ and ‘Consulting’ (your two services)?

‘Fractional CFO is a follow-up service, it is an active figure that is inside your company helping you to make decisions every month. It starts with a diagnosis and strategy and goes on to plan the year, analyse the different variables to follow the plan to the management of the upcoming audit.

The ‘Consultancy’ is a one-off service and is intended for short term projects of a strategic nature. I usually do it with smaller clients, who need to tweak their business model or transform it. We do a strategic reflection, we look at pricing, what they need to do to reach the objectives set and how they can win in the market.

Within this service I also offer valuation of companies for sale and purchase. I have been an expert valuator for 2 decades and I have been everywhere; valuator on the buying side, on the selling side, independent, responsible for financial due diligence as an expert, assisting the buyer or the seller.

If I need more related services, how can you help me?

I work with the best professional partners in Spain in the growing small and medium-sized business market. This means that you need the services of a large company, but at the cost of a small one. There are not many that meet these two requirements.

I have confidence in them because I have been in the market for 20 years doing work with them and I have tried many of them in different contexts.

We are talking about: specialised accounting/tax/labor consultancy, EAFs for capital allocation in investments, instruments and technologies for exchange rate and interest rate hedging, grant and subsidy applications, alternative financing and specialised lawyers.

I also work with colleagues to whom I can delegate some of my work if there comes a point where we need more capacity.

What technologies do you use and how do you communicate?

I am completely agnostic when it comes to technologies, both management and communication. I have used practically all the existing ones. No technology can ever condition a service. I adapt to the client’s technology or we implement the one that will work best for them according to their needs.

Do you work with startups or venture builders?

I have been mentoring startups for years and have worked on many technological innovation projects, especially spinoffs.

There are two particular cases where I have special experience:

  • Consolidated companies that want to spinoff projects they have developed for clients.
  • Companies that want to invest in a startup and need to know its value (valuation).

Yes, I work as a consultant with startups (business model, pricing, financial strategy, planning), but I do not provide ‘external CFO’ services. If you are in the latter case, I can refer you to colleagues and specialised firms that are 100% dedicated to it and are very good.
